September Newsletter

Welcome to our Brewsletter!
Can you feel it? The dog days of Summer have passed and Fall is just around the corner. Last Saturday marked the start of this year's College Football season (check out our new merchandise at the bottom of the page). The month itself began with a most excellent Festival of Iowa Beers in the Amana Colonies. And as I type these words I can't help but think that this is just a great time to drink beer.

Welcome to September, my name is Joseph and here's the news!

September's Featured Beer

Iowa Fest, a Festbier - Contrary to how it may sound, September is Oktoberfest time! Oktoberfest is an annual event originating in Munich, Germany and runs from September 21st until October 6th. What began as a wedding celebration in 1810 is now the world's largest beer festival, seeing some 6,000,000+ attendees each year. Munich's Oktoberfest has since inspired countless festivals across the globe. Festivals like this year's very first annual NewBo Oktoberfest Party, presented by yours truly ;)

The original beer of Oktoberfest was the Märzenbier, an easy drinking malt forward amber lager that has just a hint of hop spiciness on the finish and this is the style that most American brewers craft each year. However, some decades ago the Märzen was replaced by the Festbier as the official beer of Oktoberfest. In comparison, the Festbier is somewhat lighter in body and color while being slightly higher in alcohol. That being said, here in the states the terms are often interchangeable and regardless of what they're called, Oktoberfest beers like our Iowa Fest are perfect for this transition into Autumn. So send this Summer off by downing a large stein filled with two or three cans of Iowa Fest and Prost! to you my friends.

Buck Creek Hops + Iowa Brewing Co. = Buckin' Wet IPA

Next week we will be visiting Solon's Buck Creek Hop Farm to help harvest their fresh crop and we're then driving the hops back to Cedar Rapids to immediately brew a beer with them that same day!
Then, as soon as the beer is done fermenting we'll keg it and put it directly on tap - Buckin' Wet IPA, from farm to glass in 14 days - You can't get any fresher than this!

"But Joseph, this sounds so incredible. What if I can't make it to the brewery that day?" No worries. As soon as the kegs are filled we will be driving them out to half a dozen special bars who have all agreed to serve up this Wet Hop IPA the moment it arrives.
Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and InstaGram for a list of participants.
